Cryptosporidium Antigen-EIA
Preferred specimen: Stool placed in 10% formalin or Cary Blair transport media.
Collect stool specimen in a clean, dry container. Immediately after collection, transfer the stool specimen to formalin or Cary Blair medium, adding up to the fill line on the transport vial label. Mix vial well. Stool specimen preserved in formalin or Cary Blair medium is stable for 14 days stored at room temperature or refrigerated.
Minimum specimen: 0.5 mL liquid stool or 1 g solid (pea-sized) stool.
Acceptable specimen: Fresh stool specimen in a clean, plastic screw-cap container is acceptable only if the specimen will be received in the testing laboratory within 2 hours of collection. Transport refrigerated.
Unacceptable specimen: Stool specimens preserved in PVA medium or multiple specimens (more than one in 24 hours).
