CBC without Differential
Preferred specimen: One 3-4 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube. Refrigerate EDTA tube if specimen will not be received in laboratory within 24 hours of collection.
Stability: Room temperature 24 hours, refrigerated 48 hours.
Minimum specimen: 1.0 mL EDTA whole blood (lavender tube) or 250 uL (microtainer tube)
Notes: Test includes: WBC, RBC, Hgb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC. RDW, and Platelet count.
Acceptable specimen: If platelet clumping is a problem, submit both EDTA and sodium citrate (blue top) tubes.
Unacceptable specimen: Frozen, clotted, or grossly hemolyzed specimens. Tubes not filled with minimum volume.
