Preferred specimen:	2.0 mL serum, red top or gel-barrier tube. Remove serum from cells and transfer to a plastic transport tube.
Minimum specimen:	1.0 mL serum
Notes:	If required after pathologist review the protein electrophoresis will reflex to Immunofixation Electrophoresis, a more sensitive method for identification of small M-proteins, at an additional charge.
Unacceptable specimen:	Plasma.
