BBPL's Preferred Patient Program complements high deductible insurance plans (HSA, HRA)
by providing discount options in exchange for payment at time of service
Overview
The Preferred Patient Program is a voluntary, consumer driven plan that offers substantial
savings on routine outpatient laboratory testing services. The program is designed for
individuals with high deductible insurance plans to include Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA). Substantial savings are offered (50% or greater)
under this program. To take advantage of this program, the laboratory specimen must be
collected at an approved BBPL Patient Service Center (link to
Service Center Locator) and
payment must be made at the time of service.
Q and A
How does the Preferred Patient Program work?
When your physician decides that laboratory testing is needed, you need to inform your
physician that a special discount program is available requiring that the laboratory
specimen be collected at a designated BBPL Patient Service Center. You need to ask
your physician for a written order for the laboratory testing. The written order can
be in the form of a prescription pad, BBPL requisition or another laboratory's requisition.
The physician's order should list the specific tests to be performed and include the
physician's office phone number, fax number, and address. BBPL will perform the testing
and deliver the results to your physician's office via courier or fax (usually within 24
hours).
You will need to report to the BBPL designated Patient Service Center between the hours
of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Calling ahead to schedule the laboratory
draw is helpful but not mandatory. You need to request participation under the Preferred
Patient Program and present the physician's order to the BBPL staff. The BBPL staff will
determine the discounted price and request payment. You will be given a detailed receipt
and a universal insurance form marked PAID. If you desire, you may use this form to file
your own medical claim and receive credit towards you annual plan deductible.
