We are extremely honored to have a clinical affiliation with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science Chicago Medical School and are committed to providing a comprehensive and practical training experience for students who choose to spend their second year of training in our pathology practice. Our practice is physician directed and comprised of the Central Laboratory, an independent reference laboratory with 425 employees located in Columbia, and a 21 member pathology professional staff covering 18 hospitals in and around Mid-Missouri.

Our laboratory and medical practice offers training advantages that are attained from a private group with strong commitment to clinical services as well as an academic culture due to our commitment to education, clinical laboratory test development and integrated professional staff relationship with the University of Missouri Department of Pathology and College of Health Professions.

Pathology Assistant students have an exceptional learning experience including opportunities to interact with a talented group comprised of professional, administrative and technical staff. Students have daily opportunities to interact with different pathologist and pathologists' assistant staff members with diverse medical and personal interests, keen analytical skills, decades of combined laboratory experience, exceptional diagnostic abilities, and broad a range of knowledge. Training in anatomic pathology is complemented by exposure to tumor boards, fine needle aspiration clinic, a variety of continuous medical education teleconferences and seminars where students are encouraged to either present interesting cases or participate in other ways, with both our group's clinical autopsy service as well as the University of Missouri's Clinical & Forensic Autopsy service. In addition students have an opportunity to learn about the regulatory, compliance, continuous quality improvement and management methods of an independent laboratory, particularly the histology department, from our managers and supervisors.

The educational experience is also enhanced because of interaction with the clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) training program. Pathology Assistant students have a work station in the same area as the CLS students and have access to the study materials that are relevant to the PA curriculum. Students are also invited to participate in the laboratories' social activities including the University of Missouri football and basketball games, the annual holiday party, the summer family picnic and other special social events. BBPL believes that the academic environment, the surgical pathology caseload, opportunities to learn from several different professional role models, and the social interactions are all important components of the continuing education and maturation process as students matriculate and develop the art of a practicing professional.

Living accommodations are provided at no expense. The two bedroom furnished apartment with washer and dryer is conveniently located to both the hospitals and the reference laboratory. Utilities with internet access and cable T.V. are also included. The complex primarily consists of young professionals, has covered parking, swimming pool and a three hole golf course. It is located in a safe part of the city close to grocery shopping and several restaurants.

Your transition from student through the residency year is a critical one and a rotation with our group will prepare you to be extremely competent and confident in your abilities whenever you begin professional practice. We understand our responsibilities and are committed to provide an excellent educational experience.
